Ok, it seems to be a known bug. When trying to reinstall samba-libs, the log states :
secrets.tdb exists in /var/lib/samba and /var/lib/samba/private, aborting samba-libs preinst
rename one of them to allow the install/upgrade to continue

Renaming the file and reinstalling seems to work.

Bug description:
  Encountered an issue while updating from 13.10 to 14.04 : the upgrade
  encountered an error, stated the system could be unusable. Every time
  I tried to use sudo afterwards, it resulted in a "segmentation fault
  (core dumped" error.

  I removed samba (and a lot of other, important looking, packages) via
  synaptic, and now sudo works again.
