Public bug reported:

I know this is nit picking, but I imagine it is also an easy fix, maybe
just a flag when compiling or something and who doesn't appreciate a
clean machine?

Whenever a new kernel is installed or removed on Ubuntu Server 14.04, os-prober is run and adds 41 lines (depending on partitions) to syslog with information like this:

    Dec 3 13:07:03 server-name os-prober: debug: running /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/80minix on mounted /dev/sda1
    Dec 3 13:07:03 server-name 83haiku: debug: /dev/sda1 is not a BeFS partition: exiting

It does this for each partition and for each OS resulting in a bunch of
debug messages in my syslog file that really is of no use to me. I'm not
going to be dual-booting my server and even if I am, I'm not interested
in the operating systems it didn't find. I can't imagine this would be
useful information unless I was debugging the software.

Further, the primary links found by Google related to this seem to be
people trying to figure out what it means and blaming problems on it
that aren't related to os-prober.

I'm suggesting that this information not be dumped into the syslog or at
least not at this verbosity. I'd be okay with a couple lines regarding
what it did find though I don't think that is typically needed since
this information ultimately comes out in the grub config file.

It looks like this has been happening since at least the 10.04 days
judging by the discussions I see online.
