Public bug reported:

When the user chooses the option to "Check" a filesystem, they are
forced into a repair. Yes, the user has to consent to potential data
loss and give full-fledged root permissions to Gparted to do such, but
this is not fair for some users that simply want to see if there is a
problem with a filesystem and pinpoint the problems down rather than
going all-out to try and perform a full-fledged "check and repair",
especially like said because the repair process alone can potentially
delete files or lose all information in it's entirety.

My solution to making the "Check" button fair for all users in Gparted
is quite simple: After right-clicking a filesystem and clicking "Check",
the user then will be given options on what the "Check" process can do
automatically, similar to Chkdsk in WIndows NT and up, such as "Check
the filesystem for errors", "Attempt to repair if errors are found",
"Check SUMs before and after repairs", "Backup data", and/or "Backup
affected files or partitions".

Allowing a wide-range of options keeps the user not just aware that they
still have *control* over their computer, but also helps them get
started in performing system backups, potentially not losing files,
etc..
