Praveen Nair, thank you for reporting this and trying to make Ubuntu better. However, you have third party software installed which interferes with upgrading as per https://launchpadlibrarian.net/192368127/VarLogDistupgradeAptlog.txt :
Investigating (1) flightgear [ amd64 ] < 2.12.0-0ubuntu1~ppa3~precise1 -> 3.0.0-1 > ( universe/games )

Please remove all entries to PPAs from your sources list (not rely on
Ubuntu to disable them). As well, all self-compiled, third party .debs,
or PPAs need to be preferably uninstalled, or if it is software required
to run Ubuntu please replace with the package(s) available with the
Ubuntu repositories.

If this does not work, you will need to backup your data and do a clean
install of the release you would like to upgrade to.
