You are apparently trying to reuse an existing filesystem that is
damaged.  You should have the installer format the disk fresh, or if you
want to keep the existing filesystem, you will need to fsck it to repair
the damage first.

  Trying to install Ubuntu 64 bit 14.04 on a badly messed up laptop by
  putting its HDD into a USB caddy and then running qemu (with KVM
  enabled) on the ISO:

  qemu-system-x86_64 -boot -order=dc -enable-kvm -hda /dev/sde -m 1024
  -cdrom ubuntu-14.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso -cpu host

  sde is a 512G physical disk.
