  Installing Ubuntu 14.04.1 on a brand new self-built system installer
  crashes after failing to install GRUB to /target/

Bug description:
  I recently built a desktop from scratch for the first time. Part-list
  is available here: pcpartpicker.com/user/RPiAwesomeness/saved/q3Mypg

  I downloaded the Ubuntu 14.04.1 AMD64 ISO and put it on a 4GB USB
  stick using unetbootin on my current system, and Ubuntu 14.10 laptop.
  I then booted up the LiveUSB and selected "Try Ubuntu before
  Installing". From there, I opened up the installer and proceeded
  through all of the steps, up until the point where it says that it is
  installing GRUB.

  After that, it gave me this error message:

  The installer and that second window both freeze and neither of the
  close buttons on the second window worked, I had to quit it via the
  Unity dash (right-click, Quit). This launched apport and brought me
  here.

  This has happened two times in a row now, so I'm not sure if it's the
  ISO or a server-side issue or something with my system.
