After a closer look, this constant re-spawning was shown as a big CPU
burden (idle system, CPU ~80%) and I ended removing the package
altogether. That returned the CPU usage back to normal.

  Since a couple of days ago, when the "click" package made it into
  trusty, my system has a "click" process that keeps dying and spawning
  all the time in a matter of seconds. This consumes resources, mainly
  CPU as seen by running top.
