This bug is no longer of actuality. Upon rebooting, I realized that all
entries in grub had been blown away except for the memtest. So, I
reinstalled.

Bug description:
  Fresh install of 12.04. After a difficult install of Evolution (it
  would not run and I removed it and re-installed it several times using
  the Ubuntu Software Centre), updates would not install properly.

  I receive the message, "Not all updates can be made. Do you want to
  proceed with a partial update?" When I accept a partial update, I get
