[Bug 1266148] Re: installer crashed on install to external HDD

Definitely was an error writing to disk, changed out external disk, and it
worked. Now have re-installed on internal hard drive and everything is
working well. However my point about the whole thing is although I could
figure it out, the average user could not. Asking them to sign up on the
bug reporting site, and then further asking them what the problem is, is
how should I say, inviting entertainment at best, or frustration most
likely. It should be an automated process. I personally think that 13.10
is a very good operating system, and once I loaded it on a good disk, well
all went very well. Much better than the nearly day and a half that it
took me to load Windows XP Pro on the computer. The best part of the whole
thing is that once I have Ubuntu loaded on my machine, I can start right
off working, I don't have to have special drivers for my network interface
card, my sound card, or my video card, it at least makes all of them work
out of the box. I can then later download proprietary drivers if I so
choose to, but I don't have to, that is the point.
I am trying to convert some of my clients to Ubuntu 13.10 from Windows XP,
but in order to do that, when it does fail, it must have a way to get out
of that failure without asking the user to report anything more than the
logs, which it should collect automatically, It is not that XP does this,
but Ubuntu should, so it would be one more step ahead of Windows.
Thank you all for your assistance, it has been very helpful, something that
I appreciate from the Ubuntu and Linux/GNU community in general. I would
consider this issue closed, or solved, and if I have to go to the bug
reporting site to do so I will. Thank you again, you have all been very
helpful.
Cordially,
James Doud
