By going back into the Partitioner I can then go to the two partitions
listed in the RAID array, and mark the swap one as swap and the 3TB one
as etx4 and root /

This then allows the install to continue along swimmingly until right at
the very end, when it fails to instal grub:

"Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sda
Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed
This is a fatal error.

Was I supposed to change the "biosgrub" partition to something as well?
maybe FAT32 or ext4?

Bug description:
  I have downloaded the Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS 64-bit Server Installer today
  and burned it to disk.

  I am trying to setup a software RAID 1 array because the Installer doesn't recognise my Intel hardware RAID1 array 
  (brand new Gigabyte Motherboard.)

  trying to follow many tutorials and the instructions of experts in the
  Ubuntu Forums made me realise that the Installer has been changed
  since all of the tutorials were written. A lot of options are
  different or missing, or indeed added that weren't there originally.

  When manually Partitioning,
  When you create a new Partition, you are no longer given the choice of Primary or Logical, and there is now no way to set the Bootable Flag to "on"

  This of course means the instal fails.

  I believe there is no other way to do a software RAID1 instal than by
  manually partitioning so that means you can now no longer do a
  software RAID 1 instal of 12.04.3 LTS

  I have discovered at least one other who has tried with a "new installer" and is having this trouble,

  I have also read other people complaining about RAID1 setup failures
  and many different ways of trying to manually instal grub after the
  failed instal.

  I think this should be looked into.
  I can't find anywhere to report it as a bug.

  Anybody who could shed any light on this would be much appreciated.
