Title:
partitioner does not show partitions during install

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I tried to install Ubuntu 8.10 x86_64 on a Acer Aspire 4310 computer
  but failed.

At first I burned a Ubuntu 8.10 x86_64 CD then use this CD to boot the
computer. The booting succeeded. I selected "Install ubuntu". But when
I reach the step "Prepare the Disk Partitions", I found that no
partition was listed. (If I plugged in a U-disk, then I found a
partition. If I do not plug in a U-disk, then no partition was
listed.) So I cannot install 8.10 by CD.

Then I install grub-for-dos 0.44 on Windows XP, and put ubuntu 8.10
x86_64 iso on hard disk. Then boot the computer and install Ubuntu
from hard disk. When I reach the step "Prepare the Disk Partitions",
I found that no partition was listed, either. :(

After that I install Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64 on this computer. Then modify
/etc/apt/sources.list, replace "hardy" by "intrepid". Then upgrade the
system. But after I rebooting the computer, the keyboard and the USB-
  mouse cannot be used :(

So I cannot use 8.10 by any means. So unlucky.
