Title:
  Ubiquity quits at Hardware detect
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Bug description:
Install fails during hardware detect. I've run the installer a number
of times and curiously sometimes, not often, it's successful. I
haven't worked out why. Sometimes it freezes and requires rebooting.
Sometimes it drops to the Live CD GDM, others it drops to LiveCD
login. It looks to me to be a different problem from #350320. Now
I'm wondering if it's the same as #342157
  I've attached /var/log/syslog
I was guessing that the problem is with pulseaudio, which has never
been happy with my soundcard (M-Audio 2496), but I really have no
idea. Then I successfully installed just now after detaching a USB
  printer.
  Ubuntu Jaunty beta AMD64
I later found this in the syslog for the failed install:
  Apr 1 09:45:53 ubuntu python: File "/usr/share/ubiquity/install.py", line 1336, in configure_hardware
Apr 1 09:45:53 ubuntu python: raise InstallStepError("HwDetect failed with code %d" % ret)
Apr 1 09:45:53 ubuntu python: InstallStepError: HwDetect failed with code 141
