If you are still able to reproduce this, can you post the output of
fdisk -l?

Title:
  Partitioner sizing partitions incorrectly

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ubiquity

I'm installing Ubuntu 9.04 on a Virtualbox Instance with an 8GB
virtual disk. After going into the manual partition creater menu, and
clicking 'New Partition Table', the partitioners 'Scanning Disk'
dialog comes up, after which it reports the free space is 8589MB,
despite the fact that it sees the 8GB disk at the top (which is only
  8192MB). See screenshot.
