I'm afriad there is not enough information here to go on.  Since this
report is also over 4 years old, I am just going to close it.  If you
still have this problem on a currently supported release, please reopen
it and we'll see if we can troubleshoot the issue.

  9.10 beta Disk partition/format hangs on install

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  On a brand new out of wrapper 500gb disk on a Intel 64 box (which had
  been running Vista 64 with the old disk. I popped the live cd
  installer for 9.10 beta in and went through the screens till It got to
  partitioning then formatting it hung at 5 % wo any disk lights... I
  accepted the defaults as there was no operating system or anything
  else on the disk It is a gateway 64 bit 4 gb Laptop and 500gb wd disk.
