** Description changed:
The Ubuntu installer (GUI based) crashed during installation of Ubuntu
- Studio 13.10 (x64). I retried and experienced the problem again.
+ Studio 13.10 (x64). I retried and experienced the problem again. I
+ retried a third time after rebooting, again the same problem.
+
+ The problem occurs when the installer says "Creating user...".
+
+ I experienced two things which don't seem to be normal to me; maybe they
+ are related, maybe they aren't:
+
+ - In the partition editor within the installer, clicking on the
+ "Format?" check box in the list causes an error (the installer continues
+ to run in *some* cases, but in some it also crashes)
+
+ - The second screen, when I am asked if I want to download updates +
+ install 3rd party software, sometimes hangs for several minutes when I
+ click on "Continue". I got impatient and clicked on Quit in these cases.
+ Retrying the whole process worked.

Title:
Installer of Ubuntu Studio 13.10 crashes when encrypting home folder
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Bug description:
The Ubuntu installer crashed during installation of Ubuntu Studio
13.10 (x64) under certain circumstances (see below). I retried with
the exact same options and experienced the problem again. I retried a
third time after rebooting, again the same problem. The automatically
attached files are from the first try.
The problem occurs when the installer says "Creating user...". I then
found out that when I choose NOT to encrypt my home folder, the
installer does not crash at that point and Ubuntu is installing fine.
The problem only occurred when encrypting the home folder.
I experienced two things which don't seem to be normal to me; maybe
they are related, maybe they aren't:
  - In the partition editor within the installer, clicking on the
"Format?" check box in the list causes an error (the installer
continues to run in *some* cases, but in some it also crashes)
  - The second screen, when I am asked if I want to download updates +
install 3rd party software, sometimes hangs for several minutes when I
click on "Continue". I got impatient and clicked on Quit in these
cases. Retrying the whole process worked.
