Title:
12.04 update-manager crashed and requested a bug report
Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Installed squid (apt-get), apache(apt-get), webmin(wget/dpkg) and vamps(apt-get), ran into difficulties with webmin/squid, purged squid and re-installed it from webmin, then the next run of update-manager crashed and requested a bug report:
****************************************************
Could not initialise the package information
An unresolvable problem occurred while initialising the package
information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and
include the following error message:
'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/au.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_multiverse_i18n_Translation-en, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'
****************************************************
Couldn't find this particular symptom in existing update-manager bugs,
sorry if it's duplicated. Update-manager also says "this usually means
your installed packages have unmet dependencies". I've run "apt-get
check" to resolve dependecies and get the same error.
"apt-cache policy update-manager" returns the same error message
ubuntu-bug seems unable to identify the package, and doesn't give me
the option to enter a package name when selecting "other problem".
cheers
