Title:
Cannot install 14.04 on my Acer

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Attempted to install 14.04 on my Acer Aspire, but the install crashed just as it started.
I had planned on making a partition of 14.04 and keeping Win8 for a dual-boot, but the install doesn't give me this option. I chose wipe&install and now I'm here.

In the past I have tried to "try" 12.04 also from a USB, but the screen just boots up as a lit-up black screen. I tried plugging in an external monitor and there it is, the desktop. (??????) This doesn't happen for all distros. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the crash or not, but these are the issues I've been having consistently since I first tried making the Ubuntu switch on this machine.
  Thanks
