This thread solved my problem with freeplane not finding java.
Specifically the command 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' fixed my stalled
installed of java7 and 'DEBUG_WRAPPER=1 freeplane' made it possible for
me to see what was missing.  I'm not an expert on Linux so this is all
the information I can provide.
