Title:
Fresh Xubuntu install -> updates fail "untrusted packages"

Status in “update-notifier” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Xubuntu 11.10 x64 desktop

  Short:

  1) Install Xubuntu without net access
  2) After the second reboot or later, add net access
  3) Update-notifier applet says you have >= 160 updates, click install
  4) Error message listing them all as "untrusted packages", with no choice to continue.

  Long:

Net access only became available some days after a fresh Xubuntu
install. Updates then fail saying that all of them are untrusted, with
the only option to quit (no "ignore and continue").

I fixed this by opening a terminal and running apt-get update as root.
After this the updates applet let the updates be installed.

If I were a new user, this would be a big problem instead of a 10-second detour to the CLI....
