This doesn't look like a problem with the individual package, but rather
a problem with apt-get not coping with a damaged package list.

** Project changed: software-center => apt (Ubuntu)

  Software center

Status in “apt” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I have tired all the suggestions and nothing working yet. When I try to purge the software-center I get the following:
  apt-get purge software-center
  Reading package lists... Error!
  E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
  E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_saucy_partner_i18n_Translation-en%5fSG
