Ok, it looks like your drive has been configured to pretend it is
smaller than it really is, and MacOS must be wrongly temporarily
disabling this feature.  You can use `hdparm -N` to remove the protected
area.  You can also tell linux to temporarily disable it at boot time by
adding "libata.ignore_hpa=1" to the kernel command line.

  Ubuntu 14.04 Final Beta installer hangs

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  It just hangs on the "Preparing to install Ubuntu" screen. Nothing
  happens even after 5 minutes. I tried installing Ubuntu from CD and
  USB drive - no difference. I also tried passing nodmraid kernel
  option, also without success, and finally I tried installing it from
  Live CD and directly from "Install".
