Title:
  the upgrade process crashed

Status in “ubuntu-release-upgrader” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Following the notification in order to upgrade my os (kubuntu 13 current), the upgrade process crashed with following message:

While it indicates a network problem, there is no such problem. The network and internet connection of my pc works just fine.
Additionally, it shows some unrecognized characters in the error description, beginning with W: After that follows: gzip:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/gr.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty_universe_source_Sources ...... MD5Sum.
