In UEFI mode, installer crashes if OS is installed on 2nd drive and grub fails to install on 1rst drive

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS installer crashes upon installation on Acer Aspire
S2-392 with windows 8.1 Had previously installed ubuntu 14.04 using
VirtualBo and no problems other than trying to get it to go full
screen without black borders. Ubuntu runs fine from usb stick
