My apt/aptitude and dpkg won't do anything until this conflict is
resolved. It tries to configure the partly installed libssl1.0.0 before
doing anything else and, of course, it crashes out.

this is on 12.04 x64, probably affects other versions.
maybe there's a good technical reason for it?
