This is still a problem in 14.04, confirmed on an iMac G5 during install
of Lubuntu from alternate CD.

Title:
PowerPC LVM wrongly reports lack of Apple boot partition

Status in “partman-newworld” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Using the Kubuntu Alternate Install ISO, I completed the "Install
(entire disk with encryption)" testcase. As per the testcase I
selected the "Guided - use entire disk and set up encrypted LVM"
  partition option.

I answered the various questions, enetering a passphrase, the amount
of disk space to be used etc.

I was then warned that I had not setup an Apple bootstrap partition.
However, reviewing the automated partitioning scheme setup there is a
neworld boot partition allocated. It is on partition 2 outside the
  LVM as one would expect.

You are given the option to install anyway and doing so goes without a
problem. In fact at the end of the installation you are asked whether
you want to use partition 2 as the bootstrap partition. Saying yes to
this completes the successful installation. The installed system
  boots fine.

My concern is that the warning message about the Apple boot partition
is misleading. People may wrongly abort the installation.
