For god's sake this has been reported months ago and it's still not
fixed?!?!?!?!

You should at least have made the upgrade unavailable until this was fixed!
Since the damn upgrade was released I've been prompted to upgrade, until I've finally decided to take the time to perform the upgrade... just to find myself with an unbootable computer!!!

Do you realize that thousands of users with a perfectly working system
are getting it broken because of the upgrade?!?

Until you fix this huge bug, you have to IMMEDIATELY SHUTDOWN THE AUTOMATIC UPGRADES!!!!
You should have done this on the 10th of march.

Bug description:
  The update from 13.10 to 14.04 via update-manager broke grub for me,
  which resulted in the grub error:

  "symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found"

  on startup.

  To fix the problem I had to boot to my persisting Ubuntu installation
  (e.g. using Super Grub Disk) and had to reinstall grub on my boot
  partition: "sudo grub-install --recheck /dev/sdx"
