Title:
attempting to complete "dpkg -i --f" displays compgen invocation
  errors

Status in bash-completion package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: bash-completion

  looks like this:
$ dpkg -i --fbash: compgen: --: invalid option
compgen: usage: compgen [-abcdefgjksuv] [-o option] [-A action] [-G globpat] [-W wordlist] [-F function] [-C command] [-X filterpat] [-P prefix] [-S suffix] [word]

command line isn't changed as entered though, keep hitting tab and it
keeps printing it; hit enter and it's just dpkg -i --f
