Title:
Enhancement request: If I uncheck an update in Update Manager, don't
immediately prompt me to install the same version again

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Workflow:

  1. Update Manager prompts me to install updates.
  2. I scroll through the lists and uncheck the updates I don't want.
  3. I click Install Updates.
  4. Update Manager installs the updates and then immediately prompts me to install the updates I unchecked.

  Expected workflow:

  1. Update Manager prompts me to install updates.
  2. I scroll through the lists and uncheck the updates I don't want.
  3. I click Install Updates.
  4. Update Manager doesn't prompt me to install the updates I unchecked until the next update for that package is available.

Analogy: I take my car to the shop to get a new air filter and the
shop keep asks if I'd like the oil changed and a new oil filter as
well. I decline. After the car is serviced and I pay the shop keeper
asks me again if I want an oil change and a new oil filter as well. I
tell him no. As soon as the word "no" leaves my mouth he asks me again
if I want the oil changed and a new oil filter. He follows me home in
his car, and as soon as I get out of my car he offers me an oil change
and an oil filter. I decline and go inside my house and lock the door.
When I get up to go to work in the morning, he's standing outside my
house and asks me if I'd like an oil change and an oil filter. He
follows me to work and asks me again when I get out of my car.

The same applies here. In user interface design, when I say "no" I
mean "no until different circumstances arise." I don't mean "keep
  asking me incessantly."
