[Bug 1385732] Re: package grub-efi-amd64 1.38+2.02~beta2-15 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 128

This issue was caused by an unterminated string in my
/etc/default/grub.conf. It took me far too long to discover this,
unfortunately. grub-efi-amd64.postinst should really have better error
reporting. Also, apparently I have been running this way for some time,
yet update-grub has never complained about it. This should be detected
and resolved right away, and one missing character certainly shouldn't
bring down an entire distribution upgrade!

Title:
package grub-efi-amd64 1.38+2.02~beta2-15 failed to install/upgrade:
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
status 128
Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I received this error message during the upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10,
upgrading the package from 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1 to 2.02~beta2-15. The
postinst script is quite long and complicated, so I don't have time to
debug it myself. It seems to me taht this is a rather serious,
critical error. I started with a freshly installed copy of 14.04 on
an EFI system. After the upgrade, I'm now afraid to shut off or
reboot myself until I get this critical issue resolved.
