And when you press F12 or whatever key your bios uses, and tell it to
boot "Windows Boot Manager HD", do you get the same error without seeing
the grub menu?

Title:
Ubuntu 14.04 fresh install results in "error: symbol
'grub_term_highlight_color' not found"
Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I have an HP notebook, one hdd, with ub 13.04 and win 8 dual boot with EFI. I freshly installed ub 14.04 over the old one partition.
At the startup i got that grub error message.
First I tried with boot-repair http://paste.ubuntu.com/7951398/ , then manually with a complete purge and reinstall of grub-efi-amd64, plus grub-install, dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi-amd64 and update grub2, as seen in other posts.
None of that worked.
