[Bug 1385545] Re: 14.10 upgrade fails with the error : -" Could not calculate the upgrade" due to poor mirror

Hi Brian,

although that may be the case of some users, I can state that it is not
mine. I already had the main server preset as default. I updated 14.05 a
few times and tried to update the distro to 14.10: I am still getting
the same error. So, in some cases it may be the mirror, in others, not.

Best regards,

Title:
14.10 upgrade fails with the error : -" Could not calculate the
  upgrade" due to poor mirror

Status in “ubuntu-release-upgrader” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This error has occured on every system I have tried to upgrade to 14.10
I have removed all locally installed applications and applications installled from remote repositories.
I have also run autremove to get rid of orphaned packages

I am assuming that a library has been updated as part of another application install
and the version we have is ahead of the Ubuntu version, but I have no way of knowing which ones.

This happens on both 32 and 64 bit desktop versions.

I can't find any relevent logfiles that would indicate what went wrong
