I am clearly no expert here, but it seems to me that this drive
discovery was triggered by the RAID configuration On the hard drives. I
had read that I had to disable RAID before installing, I thought I did
that but it didn't actually work until I reverted back to Bios and then
turned off RAID.
My impression as a laymen is that the Ubuntu instal is out of date vs
the Windows PCs that are shipping these days. The install needs to
review the PC and drive configuration before it starts. The process
needs to be easier to enable more people to ditch windows.
