Title:
restart without hard boot not possible after today's upgrades, laptop
slow, fan runs continuously, seems like not enough memory since
  upgrades

Status in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
My laptop has been running really good until after today's upgrades.
There does not seem to be a way to revert to the settings before I
upgraded. The computer now runs very slowly, when I restart the screen
goes black and I have to do a hard stop and restart by pressing the
power key. The fan now runs continuously. Screens grey out as though
there is not enough memory, this did not happen before today. I have a
png list of today's upgrades, they have little green arrows alongside
which seem to do nothing. I can select the upgrades in the list but I
cannot remove them. What a mess. In Windows I would have a restore
  point!!!!
