  Hi,

  Since I installed my new laptop I started to see this weird and
  worrying problem.

  Randomly, ubuntu simply fails to start. After grub menù, I'm left with
  a blinking cursor.

  Usually the cursor blinks for a couple of seconds and then the white
  ubuntu logo appears and the boot goes on.

  Today at work I installed Karmic on a colleague PC (a brand new HP
  Pavillion) and, after the first reboot, same problem. When this
  occurs, only a hard power down and a reboot bring the system up.

  Please feel free to ask other informations, I really look forward to
  sort this out!
