You can use "ubuntu-bug update-apt-xapian-index" in a terminal to report
your bug using apport.

Title:
ubuntu-bug reporting tool stops working after first question
Status in apport-symptoms package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I am running Ubuntu 12.05, and most things work fine.
However I am having a bug with the updater, which can't determine which package and fails to report, so I have been trying to report that bug manually, so:
I hit Alt+F2 and typed "ubuntu-bug".
I get the Apport window asking what kind of problem I want to report.
If I choose "ubuntu-release-upgrader-core" a window appears saying it
is gathering information which then goes away and leaves me with
nothing.
If I choose "other problem", I get a window saying I need to specify a
package or PID, but there was no place to do that, and I don't know
them anyway, and putting my best guesses as arguments to ubuntu-bug
just gives me a dialog saying the package name is invalid and it
couldn't determine the package or PID.
So these tools give me no way to report the bug I am seeing, which I
will report separately since it is a different bug (update-apt-xapian-
index fails on startup).
