[Bug 469042] Re: Upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 from Alternate CD, fails with " Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 9.10 _Karmic Koala_ - Release i386 (20091028.5)]/pool/main/d/dkms/dkms_2.1.0.1-0ubuntu1_all.deb Wrong CD-ROM "

We've since stopped making alternate CDs for any of the recent releases
you may need to upgrade to (last was 12.04, and one would usually
upgrade *from* there to another release), so I think it's safe enough to
close this bug as "Won't Fix".

If anyone runs into this kind of issue again, please file a new bug
making sure to mention exactly which releases are being upgraded from
and to (just like it was done above), so we can have as much data as
possible to be able to look into the issue.

Thanks!

Title:
Upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 from Alternate CD, fails with "
Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 9.10 _Karmic Koala_ - Release i386
  (20091028.5)]/pool/main/d/dkms/dkms_2.1.0.1-0ubuntu1_all.deb Wrong CD-
  ROM "

Status in debian-cd package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
I run several Versions of Ubuntu as virtual machines under the VirtualBox manager. The upgrade of Ubuntu 9.04 (386) using the Ubuntu-9.10-alternate-i386.iso (md5= 3faa345d298deec3854e0e02410973dc) fails with the message " Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 9.10 _Karmic Koala_ - Release i386 (20091028.5)]/pool/main/d/dkms/dkms_2.1.0.1-0ubuntu1_all.deb Wrong CD-ROM ".
Examination of the .iso image shows that there is not a /dkms folder on the image. It is also missing from the ubuntu-9.10-alternate-amd64.iso (md5= 836440698456aa2936a4347b5485fdd6)
There seems to be an incompatibility between the CD and the upgrade script.
How can I upgrade using the Alternate CD?
