Second attempt at installation had the same result. To rule out my
choices, I selected US locale and no automatic login on the second
attempt.

One weirdness I noticed: On the first attempt, a 4.3 GB swap partition
was created. On the second attempt, no swap partition was created. (In
both both cases it was the automatic default partitioning without LVM.)
