Expected behaviour:  -- echo should print one \ for every escaped backslash ("\\")
$ echo "\\\\"
\\\\

Observed behaviour :
$ echo "\\"    # one escaped-bs
\

$ echo "\\\\"  # two escaped
\

$ echo "\\\\\\"  # three escaped
\\

$ echo "\\\\\\\\" # 4 escaped
\\
