You tried to install grub to a blank drive, which can not be done. You
either need to partition sda, or choose to install grub to another drive
( and make sure your bios is set to boot from that drive ).

Not sure what is unique in this case, simply going through snapshot of
vivid install, new disk, many other disks on the system. grub-install
to /dev/sda failed.
