Title:
upgrade to lucid sets file permissions for /bin/mount and /bin/ping to
000
Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: update-manager
I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04. Before the upgrade, /bin/mount and
/bin/ping (and possibly some other files that are usually SUID) had
the permissions 755 (_not_ the standard 4755). After the upgrade, the
permissions were 0000 (yes, no permissions for anybody). That caused
the boot to fail with "general error mounting file systems". I then
got dropped into a shell where I couldn't fix the problem because /
was mounted read-only. Thus I think this is pretty serious. ;)
