Title:
update-manager spins wheel and never asks for password Lucid 10.04
  Netbook remix

Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

This is sporadic - A clutzy workaround that I found is to always click
'Settings' first which does bring up the password dialog. However I
deliberately avoided the workaround so as to send the bug report with
system info when it is actually happening.

Very inconvenient and discouraging for Linux newbie.
