  Failed upgrade to Ubuntu to 12.04.1 - now can't upgrade, install or
  update any applications

Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Tried updating to 12.04.1.  Suspect the update failed midway and has
  corrupted the system.  Was getting offered a partial upgrade to
  12.04.1 from the update manager, which kept failing.  It's not only
  offering 10.10, which also keeps failing.  Also can't update or
  install any applications.

  I'm not a computer expert, about to throw this laptop out of the door
  and go back to Windows, very frustrating.  I have no idea how to
  submit logs as per below.  Not all users of Ubuntu are experts with
  the terminal I'm afraid.
