Public bug reported:

We're running samba 4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2.14.04.7 and seeing weekly "Panic
or segfault in Samba" mails and in the logs: PANIC: assert failed at
../source3/smbd/open.c(1582)

This seems to be caused by this upstream bug:

The upstream bug has a quick workaround patch:
