I'm afraid I reinstalled and did not have the problem happen again.
The difference between the origin boot and the reinstall is that I did not
select the dell recovery media option during startup. I've since learned
that the dell recovery disc creator in its original form crashes, and I
suspect that the crash stopped the whole setup.
Sorry, I'm a bit of beginner with bug reports.
