14.10 is no longer supported.  You will need to use 14.04 ( supported
for 5 years ) or 15.04 or 15.10, which just hit final freeze.

Bug description:
  Attempted installation of [Lubuntu 14.10_Utopic Unicorn_-Release amd64(20141022.1)] utopic main multiverse restricted universe.
  [error30] Read-only file system: '/target/boot/vmlinus-3.16.0-23-generic'
  I did to attemp to set the files prior to intall to 'executable' but the option was grayed out.
