Your installation disc contains a mix of files from different releases
of Ubuntu. You need to wipe it before setting it up so that it only has
one version on it.

** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu)

Title:
Install from SD card to alongside Windows 7 fails

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
This does sound similar to 1332295, which was offered by the system,
but I was using Unbuntu 12.xx (after failing even sooner with 15 and
  14).

I use the universal installer to put Ubunto on an SD card in an
external USB device. It boots okay from there, except that the
graphics driver only supports a low resolution and I can't upgrade on
  the USB/SD.

Before trying to install made some empty partition space on both of my
drives (C: SSD and D: RAID). At install time I chose "alongside
windows", not realizing that (apparently) the third option was
required to let me use that space. Anyway, I got the warning about
grub and maybe one more thing (the log was sent automatically, if I
understand and remember what I saw).

By the way, the "information will be sent when you close this window"
step failed the first time hitting the button did nothing except make
the button pulse. I went through the whole process a second time, hit
the button quickly, and it worked.

Linux was so easy in the old days! I just want something to do
occasional tasks with, and I can't seem to install this any way I try.

The machine has an ASUS X-79 motherboard, 8 GB ram, 6-core processor,
and Windows 7 Pro. Graphics card is the first nVidia card I found
that would handle my big LG screen. Sorry to be vague.
