Public bug reported:

I've just given a friend PC that was not able to log in anymore.

During an upgrade libpam-smbpass got installed, but this caused loggin-
in impossible: basically when logging in from lightdm the spinner never
stopped, while when logging in from tty1 after some long wait, the login
prompt was shown again with no errors.

After removing this lib, everything got fixed.

** Affects: samba (Ubuntu)
     Importance: High
         Status: New

** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => High
