Seems fixed by adding the following to the grub boot:
modprobe.blacklist=nouveau i915.preliminary_hw_support=1

Title:
Can't boot into X on daily startup disk ubuntu 16.04
Status in apport package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Can't boot into Live image into X on daily (04-16-2016) 16.04.
I'm using a Asus UX501VW laptop with and igpu and nvidia.
When I start the live image regularly I get the normal ubuntu splash screen which hangs after a while.
Removing the quiet and splash options from the grub bootloader results
in a booting system bug no X.
Removing the quiet and splash options and adding nomodeset results in
a borked X screen, see the attached image.
