  upgrade from lubuntu 14.04 to 16.04.1 failed

Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  While upgrading, I was asked if I wanted to keep old kernel-img.conf
  or install new or view differences side by side. I selected view
  differences side by side and the upgrade hung. I was not able to
  restart it in any way and had to do a fresh install.
