Same applies to me on Mint 17.1 and 17.3. 
Same bug is being reported in #1646607 and #1646485

FYI:
I have reported this in the ImageMagick forum (https://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-server/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=30989) and Mint forum (https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=234936) and both have entered a dead end.

Status in imagemagick package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Running the very simple command:

  convert label:aaa aaa.png

  returns this bug:

  convert.im6: no images defined `aaa.png' @
  error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/3044.

  This problem appeared with either of these two updates:

  imagemagick (8:6.7.7.10-6ubuntu3.1) to 8:6.7.7.10-6ubuntu3.2
  imagemagick (8:6.7.7.10-6ubuntu3.2) to 8:6.7.7.10-6ubuntu3.3
